That D----d Sign Has Got To Go -or- We're Full Up!

This past week has been a week full of worrisome happenings: a kitten we adopted out has gone walk-about causing major concerns for her new owners; I have had tremendous headaches complete with brain scan to see if there was something amiss there (and it did confirm I do, indeed, have an actual brain); and a dear friend is very, very ill in the hospital.
Today, I saw a cat that has been hanging around the farm duck into Hizzoner's tractor shed. Carefully, I opened the door. I got a very quick glance at the face of the cat, then spied two smaller versions of said cat. Yup. Lightening does indeed seem to strike twice. A mama-cat moved her kittens in.
I only saw the two kittens and the mom, but we just don't have room for any more cats. And the shelters are turning away animals here due to over-filled capacity. To top it off, we are people who just can't ignore them. I did put out some food and drink for the mama. This damned conundrum! I will make sure these guys have food and drink available except at night when the kitty-killers (aka coyotes, skunks, racoons...loose dogs) come around.

I understand where you are coming from. We always seem to add cats to our tally. Sorry, you lost the one you chose. It may be back. Ours have gone on walk-about many times.

Im the same way, that is why I have 7 cats.

The only problem is that we have 7 cats (housecats) already and I'm allergic to cats! I think if we "helped" any more I'll be sleeping in the barn with the sheep. :)

Oh. No.

Can't believe I'm going to say this - might getting a dog, cut down on the cats?

Oh it's great you at least feed them. We are down to 6 cats from a huge 15 cats back a few years ago. They are dieing of old age finally! ;o)We have dogs and still loose them to coyotes or owls. Now that they are fewer they stay close to the house.

HiKathy,
Did the walk-about ever turn back up? That is always hard. Sorry to hear about your friend as well, and your own headaches. Truly when it rains it pours. As for the new arrivals. What can I say? I'm the same way, although there has been a lull lately (and I say that softly....), thankfully. Could you possibly use a humane trap and catch and spay/nueter the little family once they get a bit older, then just have them as 'barn kitties'? I know its a dangerous world out there, but I think they'd rather have that sort of life (well fed, shelter, etc) than end up in a cage somewhere or worse. Just thoughts. I know you are overwhelmed, and there are so many 'needies' out there.
Take care of yourself.

Round two. My daughter let the neighbor's cat into the house and she gave birth under my granddaughter's bed, increasing their cat population by four since the neighbors don't want mama back. They are in same boat - looking for homes. If responsible owners would just spay their cats...
Good luck on the tests - glad you have a brain, but I alreayd knew that.
